Reccommendations Q's

Ok a few q's

1) I know you can waive the right to look at teacher reccommendations before they send it, and I've been advised to do that. I asked my AP Stat teacher to write me a reccommendation and she wants me to come in after school so she can write it "with me." Uhh...would this mean I can't check that box where I claim I haven't looked at the reccommendations?

2) What about reccommendations from other people, besides teachers? I have a family friend, who's a semi-famous philantrophist type guy who just sent me a written out reccommendation in the mail. How exactly should I proceed with this, especially if I wanna keep waiving the right to not look at my reccommendations beforehand?

All help is greatly appreciated!

1) The waiving rights means that you waive the right to see your teacher recs if you get in and you ask that university’s admissions department for your recs. You can definietely see them if your teacher will let you.

But in this case I think your teacher just want to talk to you about what you thought the highlights of the class were, what your impact on the class was, etc. It most likely won’t be you writing the letter itself with her.

2) I’d take it to your GC and see what he/she thinks of the letter. Most likely though, you won’t send it in because even though the writer is famous, he doesn’t know you and your work in any meaningful way.
