Received a letter checking for interest?

My daughter recently finished her applications. One of the colleges she applied to ( 30's US News ranking) sent 2 letters to our home. One was addressed to the parents, giving us a person to call if we had any questions about the school, etc. The one addressed to my daughter was very interesting. It was rather long, and in the body it said, "we are interested to know why you are considering our college". It then gave her a link to go and fill out yet another short essay. She barely read it, I'm glad I did! I think that since we are from the Midwest and this college is in the Northeast they are trying to protect their yield this way. Any one else come across one of these?

My daughter has had a couple letters like that and one to the parents as well. We actually have a school we visited in PA that calls nearly once a week and has extended the EA deadline twice now. I really should pick up the phone and tell them she’s not interested lol.

I’m not sure what your question is? But I have not heard of this before when you have already applied! It is possible she is on the bubble.

Not really a question. She is “overqualified” for this particular school. I think they are trying to raise their rankings by protecting their yield. If she didn’t submit this extra essay perhaps they wouldn’t admit her?

It would probably be the difference between a waitlist/deferral and an acceptance. They probably view her as overqualified.
