likely letter?

I recently recieved a letter in the mail that I'm not sure has any significance to it.

It basically stated that they have recieved my standardized test scores and they "indicate that you are probably the kind of student who has traditionally enrolled at Emory and done well." It does on to describe Emory and the different activities available.

Has anyone else gotten this? Does it mean anything?

Also at the end, it says "I hope that you will write, call, or visit in the months ahead." Should I be doing these things to show my interest? I don't really have anything to write or call about...

I got the same letter a couple of weeks back. Not what I would call a likely letter though. I think it means that your scores fall within range of the students there, which is a good thing.

Yes, Emory does value demonstrated interest more so than alot of schools, so while it may not be a deal breaker, it can only help to get in contact with the University somehow.

My first post

Are you two juniors? My senior D got that letter after she had her SAT scores sent to them. She got similar letters from other schools. It doesn't mean anything except "Hi. Look at us." Emory does track "interest" - so visit, or call, or email, or show up at a college fair and get your name down. They don't keep track of how many times you show interest - it's either you did or you didn't. Make sure you get the checkmark.

(Welcome, SouthernStudent!)

it means jack squat

While I agree it doesnt signify any advantage over anyone else in the admission pool who have scores within range, I do beleive it means at the very least your scores are not any reason to immediately disqualify your app (as in they probably send the same letter out to most of their applicants).

Binx, I am a senior who applied RD, who also got the letter after sending my scores, as I did with other schools as well. I assume it's a fairly common thing for schools to do.

i got a similar letter from Macalester, so there you go, every college sends one, at least most do.

Yes, this very same letter went out last year. Most of the applicants who posted on CC (including my son) reported receiving one.
