Received a Parking ticket at a University I don't attend?

There’s a University I live very close to, Rowan University. I have a lot of friends that go to school there and typically spend my weekends there.

I was told by many friends that I’m allowed to park in a specific parking lot from Friday at 4pm until Sunday at 8pm without worrying about tickets. I’ve been parking there regularly, without issue, since November. This past Friday I parked at 10pm, was drinking and spent the night at a friend’s place, then went to a Dage (day drinking party) on Saturday.

I got a minor injury at the Dage and had my dad pick me up since I wasn’t feeling well. I stayed home Saturday and today, Sunday, I had my dad drop me off to grab my car.

I was ticketed at 5am on Sunday morning. It’s a $75 ticket for “no permit/proper display” and I plan to appeal. It’s my first ticket, and none of my friends have ever heard of someone getting a ticket in townhouses over the weekend.

Lots of my friends don’t have permits or stickers on their cars and park in Townhouses all the time.

What should I state in my appeal letter? Since I’m not a student would it be easier if I got a friend to claim it was their car and they were borrowing it?

@CAPS4SAMMEH Yeah. Lying to law enforcement is always a great idea.

I say pay the $75 and consider it as part of the cost of doing business.

By all means get your friend in trouble too.

Forgot this: You are a young amateur BSer trying to BS longtime veteran professional BS Detectors. As a neophyte, you might think that you’re somehow a Chosen One, anointed with special innate talents of persuasiveness and charm that will allow you to escape this minor setback.

You might be right. But, as a veteran professional sober BS Detector myself, I’m not betting on you.

$75 seems a reasonable price for a parking spot you have been using since November…

I would be more concerned with your feeling the need to drink during the day than about fighting a probably legitimate $75 ticket. If you were my kid, you wouldn’t have a car anymore if I found out you were drinking underage. Pay the ticket and consider it a lesson that you should think about learning.
