Received email, 2012-2013 FAFSA correction has been filed?

Can anyone shed some light on this? I did not file a correction for the academic year that just ended. For the coming year (2013-2014) I verified using the IRS tool months ago. So I don't understand who made this correction or why, so far after the fact. Text of email follows:

A 2012-2013 FAFSA Correction for [STUDENT'S NAME] was processed on MAY 17, 2013.

What Happens Next
- The student was notified of the status of their application and whether there are any issues that
need to be resolved.
- The application information was sent to the school(s) on the application.
- The school(s) will use the application information to determine what aid the student may be
eligible to receive.

Thank you,

So apparently, the college filed the correction…all the numbers seem to be the same, and our EFC for last year has increased by $500. ??

Did you possibly file (recently) under the wrong aid year?

Contact your school for clarification.

No, I filed the correct years. This is indeed the 2012-2013 data. I’ll write the FA dept and ask what is on their minds.

Got the exact same email, the school is USC.

I don’t think there is any changes, maybe USC is retrieving the FAFSA to process financial aid for this year.

^ Yup. But I don’t get why they processed a correction resulting in a slight EFC change. They’re closed today for commencement, I sent an email.

Just got the same thing from USC , was very confused for a while as have submitted 13-14 fafsa with corrections due to a lste K1 , then relooked and saw it was 12-13 they are talking about. Maybe a system error ?

Mmmm, I didn’t even notice it is for 2012-2013, it is strange.

The colleges can make changes.

Clearly they can, but one would think it’s a little bit late to be tweaking and correcting last year’s FAFSA EFC. You might be on the right track catlover2.

Either the school is auditing their verifications and fixing an issue … or someone is pulling up the wrong FAFSA during verification. I would call!
