Received Letter of Admittance

mdcissp

Engineering.. that is the school that also invited me visit last Nov. the letter does not talk about a Diversity weekend though...

Hmm... this is somewhat disconcerting. Do you think that Cornell has already finished their admissions process and sent out letters to all admits stating they will be admitted (call it for yield-increasing purposes), or do you think that it is on a somwhat "rolling" basis and not all decisions have been made? My guess is, seeing so many people who already got one of those "unofficial acceptance letters", that not getting one (most probably) means rejection. What do you guys think?

i got the same letter, and it means your in unless you fail all your classes in the next two weeks or get arrested. So while it is saying you and I are in, they can't officially tell us until the 31st.

First -congratulations to Higherground and Degan 747. Are you going to Cornell? First choice? Degan 747--are you also Engineering? Did you both have something stellar beyond the usual high GPA and test scores? i.e. did you win famous competitions or something else that really is extraordinary? NMF?

Not sure where attending yet.. Waiting on other schools.. No famous competitions or anyhing extraordinary. NMF? pls explain

there are not really so many people getting likely letters or Diversity weekend letters it just seems that way...if you actually count the number who have posted it will be a very small number compared to the 4000 or so who will be admitted ...good luck...

This thread is actually infuriating to me.

A likely letter is by definition a letter that tells exceptional students that they will be admitted. They cannot call it a "hey your getting in letter" or a "your in but we can't tell you yet letter" so they call it a likely letter.

Therefore, Higherground-- no one is saying that you admittance is "likely" rather then "definite", the letter you got is just commonly referred to as a likely letter.

My gosh people if you are smart enough to get a likely letter this shouldn't be such a difficult concept.

That said congratulations. I also promise, despite what this post may imply, I am not really a mean person so if we all end up at Cornell together don't avoid all blondes on account of not wanting to meet me.

hahhaha dumbblonde i was feeling the same way. and then i kept thinking, who CARES if it is a "likely letter" or not because it says you ARE ACCEPTED.

grasp the concept and get over it. but that is just my "awaiting rolling decisions i have no idea when i will hear" anger and frustration.

im not a mean person and i do congratulate you all though :)

dumbblonde, I was going to say the EXACT same thing you said.

Reading this makes me angry.... Mainly because higherground just can't seem to understand what a likely letter is...

a likely letter doesn'tmean they are playing with your minds and saying.. you might get rejected, you might accepted, but teehee, you are LIKELY to get accepted, we can't tell you though....

IT MEANS YOU ARE ACCPETED BUT THEY CAN'T GIVE YOU THE OFFICIAL LETTER OF ACCEPTANCE TILL THE AGREED IVY RELEASE DATE OF 3/31!

we clear now? :)

and seriously. congrats. be happy. i would so pick cornell > any other school ;D

i love cornell, but i think i would prefer Yale or Brown.....

my only problem is that all 3 of the schools would not want me...

"My guess is, seeing so many people who already got one of those "unofficial acceptance letters", that not getting one (most probably) means rejection. What do you guys think?"

very few people receive likely letters. don't worry about it.

Great news!! Congrats to all of you who got the letters of admittance. Never heard of this kind of letters. Can you pls post your stats?
just curious

To Higherground: NMF means National Merit Finalist.

mdcissp, i dont know if i am going to cornell. It ties for my first choice along with upenn and brown, both of which i have not heard back from. I am not engineering. I really don't think I have anything impressive though.
