Recently accepted to UNC.... however, I have chosen another path.

Good evening,

I am proud to say that I have recently been admitted into UNC for fall 2016! (stats for those RD applicants who want to compare: 3.74 GPA (4.51 weighted), 1860 SAT (1250 CR+M), top 10% (23 of 326), white/asian/native american male, in-state)

However, I have ultimately decided to enlist in the US Army as an infantryman/11 bravo due to the fact that I have always aspired to be in the military and to continue my family’s tradition of martial service dating back to the Franco-Prussian war. I welcome the expected derision from parents and students regarding my decision, however I have a few questions that I would like addressed, especially by UNC alumni or staff. I also plan to call the admissions office regarding this situation.

Is it possible for Carolina to reserve my admission for four years, allowing me to enroll after my service is over using VA tuition benefits?

If not, can I submit another application with my high school record? Do I have to take college classes? Will my AP credit (AP Psych., APUSH, AP World, AP Lang.) be accepted at a later date?

Thank you in advance.

Wow. Interesting story. I have no clue how to answer your questions, so consider this post a bump for your thread.

Why did you decide to enlist instead of enrolling at a Military Academy? Just curious.

I would go ahead and call admissions and talk to them as they are your best resource in this situation I believe.

On a side note, I’m also curious as why you chose enlistment over ROTC or the academies? I ask because I’m going the ROTC route.
