Hey everyone! I just got admitted to Duke University about an hour ago, and I’m absolutely stoked. Honestly, I haven’t been this happy in months! Anyway, I was admitted to the Pratt School of Engineering (I applied as a Chemical Engineer) but I’m already having doubts about my future as an engineer. I know for a fact that I will remain in the STEM field, but after I submitted my Duke application, I found out about the website Art of Problem Solving. I started to go through old AMC/AIME etc questions and I found myself developing a passion for math (I think I’d like to major in it). What should I do? Should I just double major in Math and an engineering field, even though I’m not sure I want to be an engineer? Also, if I experiment in both Engineering & Math, is there any way I can switch over to Trinity? Idk what to do and I’m really confused rn, so any help is truly appreciated. Thanks so much everyone, and hopefully I’ll see you all in Durham this fall!
Congratulations! A lot of what you’re asking is very personal TO YOU and not something anyone on the forum can answer without knowing you on a more personal level. Wait until you get on campus and talk to your advisor, Academic Deans, and the Career Center. So many people at Duke want you to succeed and they’ll help you out when you’re on campus. Don’t fret too much about it now!
As for the Trinity question: YES. Many Pratt students switch and it’s not difficult. Switching from Trinity to Pratt can be tricky because Pratt has very specific requirements but going from Pratt to Trinity is very common and I haven’t heard issues with anyone getting that done.
To sum: nothing you can really do (or should do) about it now. Enjoy your summer and wait until fall to start finding your academic path. You’ve still got plenty of time!
@allthelamps Thanks so much for the advice! I feel 1000x better. I think I’ll submit my deposit tomorrow after I visit the campus
It’s easier to double major from Trinity because of the degree requirements. You’ll have plenty of time to transfer.
Congrats to our newest Blue Devil!
