When I first applied for the 2009-2010 school year I received an EFC of 4019, I just checked it the other day and it had the same number but there was an asterisk. The school I currently attend has not sent me anything at all for verification. Do I need to contact my financial aid office or will they send me something closer to payment time. I don't have any fees left to pay for the school year, in fact the school owes me a refund because they charged me fees for summer classes before financial aid with waiver fees kicked in.

When you are looking at your student aid report click on “SAR comments.” It should indicate what the asterisk is for. You should definitely contact the financial aid office.

An * means you are randomly selected by FAFSA for verification. Your school may or may not decide to actually verify you depending on their policies (some verify only the 30% required by law, some verify more, some verify everyone). My daughter’s EFC has had a * 3 times and she has been verified 2 times. My son’s school verifies everyone every time. Check your financial aid page to see if it says anything about verification documents being needed (again schools will differ - my daughters school will show this on her FA page, my son’s will not).

If you have any concerns then drop your financial aid department an email asking if you have anything you must do.
