Recieved an unexpectedly low grade - what to do?

So, my last final was over a week ago. Today I checked my semester grades and they are all posted. Everything was about what I expected except one class... I received a C in it. This comes as a shock because I have gotten only As and Bs on it. We didn't have an exam for our final, we had a paper. I did the math out: I would have had to have gotten a 30 on that paper in order to get a C (and that's assuming I recieved a 75% for attendance, even though I actively participated and attended each class). Realistically, I recieved an A for attendance, which would mean that I would have had to have gotten LESS than a 30 on that paper.

I'm not sure what to do. I've gotten a B and an A- on my previous two papers, so even if this was a low quality paper (which, IMHO, it wasn't that bad) it was NOT a 30. Not even an F. I just don't understand this grade. All of the contact with the teacher is through our class portal, but that will be expiring soon because of semester ending, so is there a way to contact the teacher? I messaged her and asked if this was some sort of mistake and if not what the grade was that hurt me so badly, but what should I do if the portal disappears before I get a response?

Email your professor. Is there any way you could see her in person?

At my school, the deadline for grade changes is sometime in the fall semester, so I imagine that this is also the case at your school. Also, if you check your school’s academic calendar for the 2012-13 school year, there might be a date given for the deadline for grade corrections.

clarinette - I don’t think so. I live about 90 minutes from the school, but as I mentioned exams have been over for more than a week. So I’m not positive she’d be on campus at all, nevermind the hours she actually would be, which means that’s out of the question until next semester. I did send an email though.

natural - I looked, and I can’t seem to find a “deadline” of sorts. All I can find is that the University says that for certain reasons, grades ARE allowed to be changed. The deadline for actually submitting grades was yesterday, so I’m hoping that it was sort of last minute (she’s never really been good about grading) and made some sort of mistake due to a time crunch. I’ll just have to hope for a response to get the details now.

If you can’t contact her (really? she doesn’t have an email?) then contact her department and explain the situation and ask how you can contact her about a grade dispute.

roman - I was mistaken in my first post, and I guess I must not have been clear in my second. After posting this I searched through the syllabus and she did, in fact, give us an email. We were just told to only contact her through the portal, but the email was there so I did contact her through that as well.

I am in the same predicament. I received one grade lower than I believe I deserved. I emailed them but they are not responding. If they teach any summer courses I would go in then. That is what I am planning to do.
