recomendations

i go to a small nj caltholic school would my chaplin priest be a good person to write a letter, he knows me reasonably well as he was the preist in my parish where i went to grammar school, and he is a family friend

Are you sure you went to a grammar school… Colleges prefer that you submit two teacher recommendations and a guidance counselor recommendation. Extraneous recommendations are looked down upon.

Yes, I went to a grammar school but, I am far too lazy to type from my phone with proper grammar. It is just rather annoying.

I don’t think that’s really true. It really depends on the school. I’d definitely send in the required guidance counselor recommendation, generally two teacher recs, and if given the option, an additional recommendation. The latter can certainly come from priest as long as he can add a new spin to the application.

“Extraneous recommendations are looked down upon.”

Not true at all. Recommendations from important people who don’t know you are looked down on. Recommendations from your mom are looked down on. And multiple recommendations that basically say what your teacher recs said are just a waste of paper. But a recommendation from someone who knows you well and in a capacity that is not evident at school can be very helpful. D’s recommendation from her boss at the nonprofit she worked for is probably the reason she got into her top choice schools.
