What computer would you guys recommend for Pre-Med w/ Biomedical Engineering and Medical School (total of about 8 years of use). Budget is $3,500. I have only used PCs until now, don't really know anything about macs. Most important to me would have to be mobility, speed, and durability.

Thanks,
Steve

Well, if you want small yet powerful PCs with an SSD and HDD and Windows 7 Pro and a large resolution, choose the Sony VAIO Z series laptops. They are 13.1 inch however.

[Newegg.com - VAIO Z](<a href=“Are you a human?”>Are you a human?)

Here’s another laptop that’s $2000 but only weighs 6 pounds, has 5 hours of battery life, really high resolution, and a good graphics card. Powerful but could be false advertising.

[Newegg.com - ThinkPad W Series W510(4319-2RU) NoteBook Intel Core i7 820QM(1.73GHz) 15.6" 4GB Memory DDR3 1066 320GB HDD 7200rpm DVD±R/RW NVIDIA Quadro FX 880M](<a href=“Are you a human?”>Are you a human?)

I’ve never heard of a pc that lasts 8 years ( pre med & med school). However, I do know that macs last longer than PC’s. One of my teachers has had his Ibook for about 7 years. If you have 3k to spend on a computer, I would recommend getting a Macbook pro , It doesn’t take longer than a week to get used to it.

My PCs last an incredibly long time. You “know that macs last longer than PC’s” exactly how? I’m not bashing Macs, and I mean no offense, but this is just plain false.

If you were really looking for a Mac v PC conversation, try here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-computers/1004813-bad-idea-transition-pc-macbook-my-first-year-college.html

Anyways, OP, stick with whatever you’re already used to, as there is no reason to switch over these days. And unless you’re an extreme gamer, all of $3500 might be hard to spend.
I suggest looking through [Newegg.com - Laptops, Notebooks, Cheap Laptops, HP Notebooks, Toshiba Laptops, Laptop, HP Laptop, Notebook Computers](<a href=“Are you a human?”>Are you a human?)

Newegg and TigerDirect are two of the top places to browse if you’d like to have a powerful machine at a good price. I definitely wouldn’t spend a huge bundle on a computer in hopes that it will last eight years. The computer technology industry makes improvements daily and your system will probably be out of date within just a few years. You can customize a Sony Vaio to have 4GB RAM, 500GB 5400RPM HDD, and just download AVG rather than paying for Norton (Norton is garbage anyways) for $799. That will get you through a number of years easily.
