Recommend Some 2012 Summer Programs For Me

I didn't find out about this summer program phenomenon until it was too late to apply for an interesting on this year, but I definitely want to participate in at least one next year. I like how I spent this summer, but it felt sort of empty. I figure that, while I have time I should make a list of programs to apply to now, that way once application time comes (if its anything like last year was, I will be very busy) I will already have the research done. I'm finding myself sort of overwhelmed though, and don't know where to start. Can you help me, CC posters? I've got a few different, pretty diverse interests.

One of the things I'm looking for is a Japanese language program (though not an exchange). I have heard about Middlebury/Montery, Concordia, and FALCON, are there any others worth checking out? Or any run by Pennsylvanian universities? I probably could have signed up for a Concordia session this year, but I have read some negative reviews that have me very nervous.

I'm also looking for research stuff, but I haven't really found anything. Non-residential programs outside of Pennsylvania aren't really feasible for me.

It also seems like it would be fun to attend a program in chemistry, engineering, or linguistics, but I haven't really found anything.

Any suggestions? It probably complicates things that I would need at least some financial aid for all but the cheapest programs.

My daughter loved Concordia Language Villages Spanish camp El Lago del Bosque when she was younger, and she’s been a counselor at their Arabic camp Al Waha the last two years. It is pretty nice. The four-week (credit) sessions are far more academic than the two-week sessions.

You might find some ideas for Japanese summer sessions in the Less Commonly Taught Languages database:
[The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) : Less Commonly Taught Languages](The Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA): Less Commonly Taught Languages)

Thanks, that’s a great resource! It looks like PA’s Japanese pickings are pretty slim, unfortunately.

Katica, my D2014 just finished up at Concordia’s Chinese village, 2 week session. Loved it, even though she really didn’t want to go when it turned out noone else she knew would be there. Rave reviews about all except a bit tired of eating only Chinese food:) Wants to go back next year. Learned a lot, had fun, reenergized about Mandarin. It is far from PA, but they have options for getting there. Highly recommend.
