Recommendation for good acne medication anyone?

I need some affordable acne medicine pronto-pref something that is made for oily skin but wont suck your face dry. Any suggestions?

I used to use those oxy pads... they're like little towelettes with medication on them. Wal-mart has them for about $7

Have you tried Proactiv? It works really well and it isn't prescription.

Benzoyl peroxide cream works well for me - it really dries up acne spots. There's an OTC kind (I think it's Clean and Clear) that's 10%, which is actually stronger than the prescription benzoyl peroxide I used to use. Actually, you sort of have to be careful with it, because it's so strong it'll bleach out your sheets/towels/clothing if you're not careful.

If your acne isn't that bad, you may not need something that drastic...

i hate benzoyl peroxide and anything with salycic acid

they dry out your skin so much especially during the dry, cold weather

I suggest you buy a cleanser and wash your face everyday instead. During the winter you'll have less oil on your face so daily cleaning should do

Use 10% benzoyl peroxide (oil, cream, whatever) only on your pimples. Don't smother it on your face or your whole face will look gross and it'll go peely.
And same with Tea tree oil. Except for tea tree oil, after a month or two, it stops working (kinda like viruses).
Both of those things will make your pimples go bigger and more redder for the first week or 2. Then, it'll go down like magic.

Wash your face with a gentle cleanser, use a good toner, and moisturise. Only cleanse your face 2 times a day. You need your natural oils too.
And try some masks. Like, teatree masks, greentea masks, seaweed masks.

If your acne is really bad, go to a dermo.

www.acne.org ............ benzoyl peroxide.

neutrogena face cleanser/mask

benzoyl peroxide (worked great for me, but i have some friends who say it really dries out your skin)

Differin is an excellent medication
Does not bleach like benzoyl peroxide and unless you use it like crazy, it does not dry you out

You don't necessarily need a 10% benzoyl peroxide - in some cases it can irritate your skin if you use it in excessive amounts.

For your oily skin, I recommend one of clinique's oil-absorbing moisturizers. Your oily skin can, of course, be attributed to natural hormonal imbalances due to being a teenager. Also, your skin might be producing excessive oil if you are washing your face too often.

I suggest you not scrub your face with rough beads such as though in Apricot Scrub - they will rip and damage your skin.

2.5% benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid will be fine for now. Use a gentle face wash and buy a moistrizer. Also, drink some more water.

Whether your skin is tremendously awful or mild will be determined by your primary care physician. From there will you be able to get a referral to a dermatologist. Either way, they'll probably, depending on the severity of your skin, send you through some form of antibiotics or BP and perhaps differin as mentioned above or tretinoin (Retin-A). Accutane is reserved to those who have not responded well to previous medications - there are a lot of health issues with accutane.

However I think I may be rambling on excessively. Hopefully this post will help you and others with acne.

Btw, my mother is a dermatologist.

i've tried proactiv and it definately doesn't work. I've also tried some Mario Badsceu products but it's so expensive to but the recommended items.

I just started the regimen from http://www.acne.org with 2.5% benzoyl peroxide (Neutrogena on the spot), facial cleaser (cetaphil) and moisturizer (mario badsceu buttermilk moisterizer)

the regimen is a pretty good idea. www.acne.org

Basically, I was paying 50 dollars for these small little things of a product named like Benzacillin, when the BP from acne.org is much cheaper and gives much more product.

Cleanser - usually people use gentle cleansers (Cetaphil, Purpose, etc. Things without Benzoyl Peroxide and Salacylic Acid or whatever.)

You apply your Benzoyl Peroxide cream or gel

Moisturize - OBVIOUSLY if you skin is drying out you'll want to moisturize. If you don't, what ends up happening is your face will try to produce more oil to fix itself, bad idea. For moisturizer you want one of those non-oily kinds, Neutrogina, Cetaphil, Vaseline complexion. Also, if you get a moisturizer with AHA it'll help fade whatever redness you have.
