-________-
lately i've gotten quite the bit of acne on my forehead (disgusting, i know)
what do you guys use to treat acne?

Benxoyl peroxide cream. And oil-free moisturizer afterward - it helps keep your face from getting dry or red and irritated, especially if you have sensitive skin.

I used to have really bad acne but then I got some natural acne fighting pills at the health food store. They worked amazingly well, except it's back now cause I haven't had money to go buy it in a few months lol.

I don't remember what the exact name is, but I'll find it and let you know.

acutane.

GG

I drink a lot of water and try not to eat too much of the things that seem to cause me to break out.

If you have acne that won't go away with conventional treatments, try going to a dermatologist... I don't have horrible skin but I could never get it really clear and they gave me some sort of pills to take after trying benxoyl(spelling?) peroxide. Now it's really good unless I'm stressed.

GL

i use clearisil ultra-it works really well just dries up your skin so get moisturizer also
I don't recommend clean&clear; my pimple just turned green (GROSS) when I used it.

acutane has a 75% chance of eliminating acne for good.

i use RETIN-A and benzyoyl peroxide....seems to be working slowly but surely

What is acutane?
I wish I could rid my acne for good.. It's very troublesome
I used to use ProActiv but it lost its effect.. Now I use a similar product called "AcneFree"--Severe.

Ask your dermatologist. It's a 5 month treatment that shrinks the pores. All you do is take one pill any time during the day. However, it requires monthly blood tests (they check your triglyceride levels).

acutane is scary and it can have really horrible side effects. for most people it really really really dries out your skin, which can be pretty gross, but you can deal with it. however i actually know a girl who went on it and then suffered from severe depression and became suicidal, which she never fully recovered from. take it if you have severe acne and you've exhausted all options

for girls- you usually have to go on the pill before starting it, and you need to take about three pregnancy tests even if you're a virgin. there are horrible side effects for the fetus

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acutane

after you try retin A, tazorac, differin, etc they will usually put you on some antibiotic. if that doesnt work youll get accutane. and that will work.
I had to take it 4x a day for a few months actually, not once... but it worked wonders.

Accutane...I had the WORST severe acne and now...11 months since I started taking a course, I haven't had a breakout since my 5th month so I've been 6 months acne free.

Definitely the thing to get. If anyone is interested I could find some before pictures and post them and also post pictures now.

lol, ever since I started accutane I have been happier than I had been in Sept - December. Although this could be because A. I've run a lot more and broken the 300 lb plateau in squats, B. the giants won the super bowl, and C. I got nominated for the presidential scholar

piccolo- I love acutane!! It saved my face.
meg vortex- ask a dermatologist, they will understand your unique situation

I had bad acne and just used Mary Kay. I used the cleanser and moisturizer for oiliy skin. Then voila! My skin has been relatively clean.

Yes, accutane tends to be medicine of last resort for severe, cystic acne. However, there is another new product that doesn't have as many negative sideaffects that is showing a lot of promise. Has only been on market about 6 months or so.

It is Differin 3%. I know many of you will say you tried Differin but that was probably Differin 1%. The new 3% formulation is much more effective. So far, I know 4 people who have been on it for whom all else including antibiotics, Duac, etc. had ceased being effective. Also, once your acne has cleared, it can be used for spot treatment only which Accutane isn't as good for. Both differin formulas are prescription only.

Those people I know that used Accutane had good results but it did NOT eliminate their acne for good. And the reason females must be using an oral contraceptive is that Accutane does have horrible effects on a fetus. Actually, for some women (not all), starting an oral contraceptive will decrease acne.

In my experience, Benza-Clin works well but it's a bother having to get a prescription for it (plus it expires quickly), so now I just use Derma-E's Scar Gel. It's supposed to be used for eliminating scars (well, including acne scars too) but I found that it works wonders preventing acne! I recommend it :)

Good genes! Haha.

No but seriously, dont be tempted to dry the hell out of it. That just makes it worse. Use some mild cleansers for everyday and do a heavy-duty one 1x or 2x per week.

Well, actually if you dry the entire face that you'll breakout more because of the body making more oil to compensate for dry skin.

But I have a Benozyl Peroxide Gel that I use to spot treat pimples and it dries the one pimple away in a few hours. Amazing for the little stubborn ones...

But yeah, Accutane is awesome. If you're a girl, I can't say the same thing because I don't know the whole process with birth control and other stuff to avoid.
