Some may remember that in addition to S, I have gS who is applying this year. He is not your typical cc kid in any way, shape or form. Has been out of hs since June '04. Applying to U New Hampshire only. 3.0 average, 970 SAT. (Will go community college route if UNH doesn't fly). Just learned that UNH doesn't have SATs (they were sent by CBd, but somehow lost; I am on top of that) or recommendation (which his HS GC told me he had sent). Anyway, they instead want a more "current" recomm -eg, from his employer. He works at a grocery store, entry level of course, and has no trouble asking for a rec there. But he asked me what the "guidelines" are to give this person so the rec will be on target (good question gS!).

What would you give as a short-and-sweet guideline to an employer? Something I can email. Thanks!

I would guess that people can only write about the context in which they know someone, so, what kind of employee is he (punctual, responsible, takes initiative, conscientious, thorough, quick to learn new things) and what kind of person is he (kind, thoughtful, personable, etc.).

Second the LHD motion, esepcially if the employer can give positive comments on taking the initiative. In any case, ask the employer to give one or more specific examples if possible - adds a lot of color to an otherwise general letter of reference [one example of taking the initiative or of quickly learning something new and important]

another thing that would sound great is 'teamwork'. Any info gS can supply regarding the UNH program that he's interested in would help as well, so ER could put letter into context, should s/he so desire.
