Hello, thanks for checking this question out!
I wanted to know if there is a possible downside to using up all of the recommendation letter spots. UCh offers 2 required teachers, one optional teacher, and one supplemental. Is there a possibility that sending four letters would come off as desperate or unconfident or the like?
Thanks!
My personal advice is to use all 4 only if each further one after 2 rounds out who the student is. If they are not “additive”, skip them. So they should be from people who know the student well and have different perspectives. I would worry less about desperate and unconfident than simply boring.

UChicago is all about you deciding what you think is important for them to read. If you think its an important letter from someone who can show a different or highlight a certain perspective about you then send it. You’re applying to UChicago, you can figure this out if you’re meant to go there. But really don’t worry about this too much, they aren’t going to not admit you just because you send an extra letter of recommendation. Good luck!
