Hi, looking for advice on deciding who to ask for recommendation letters. I am a dual enrollment student so I have not taken many high level classes at my high school. I should add that I am applying to very selective schools. There are two main decisions here:
- Between two teachers of the same subject, but one is a college professor vs a high school teacher. I'm definitely leaning towards my professor here, though I expect they both would write a very good recommendation.
- Between a 10th grades science teacher and a current college professor in an engineering class. This one is tougher.
10th grade teacher: Wasn’t my favorite class but likely knows me more. Also was two years ago so maybe would not have as good of examples to write about.
Current eng. professor: Cool guy, but its an auditorium class so I feel that although I am a leader in class he doesn’t know me as well. I’ve talked to him outside class about career advice so he knows me from that angle.
Overall, how much do you feel having a college prof write a recommendation would help rather than high school teachers who knew me better but to whom I haven’t kept in touch with?
Thanks for any advice,
High School Senior
