Hey, so the time for me to get recommendation letters is quickly approaching. I've heard repeatedly that you should get one teacher rec from a math/science teacher, and one from an english/history teacher to show breadth.
Here's the issue: I think a rec from one of my science/math teachers will be generic at best. Would it really be that bad to have recs from a history teacher and an english teacher?

It depends on the college and your prospective major. If you are a non-STEM applicant and the college does not specify the subject area for the teacher recommendation, it should be fine. If you will be a STEM major, all bets are off.

If you’re applying to a STEM major, try to have one science or math teacher rec. One generic recommendation will not kill your application.

D is a STEM major who go all of her recs from humanities teachers, but she’s going to a LAC, so YMMV. But it is possible.

I don’t plan to be a STEM major anyway, so it looks like I should be fine. Thanks for the help!
