Recommendation letters: More the better?

Hi all,

I’m finishing up my applications on common app, as my advisor has just finished writing my recommendation letter. Before I submit my application, however, I was wondering if I should ask one of my professors to write me another recommendation letter (that is, I heard that I could stay at an advantage if I have more than one). The thing is, I was not exactly close with most of my professors, and the most closely connected was my Science technical communication professor, but even then I didn’t consider her to be someone who fully understood me. The question is, would it be better for me to, regardless of the distance of our relationship, ask for a professor in my major to write me a recommendation letter?

Please advise.
Thank you!

I’ve actually heard/read that it may be a bad idea to get a recommendation from a professor or anybody that doesn’t know you that well as it might be too generic of a letter - as in they could be talking about any student. I guess it could always help, but if the professor doesn’t have much to say about you, it probably wouldn’t mean much to whoever is reading your application. Having one really good letter would be better than having 2 or more from people that don’t know much. If it makes you feel any better, the 1 professor I chose to fill out a recommendation letter for me didn’t even do it and I still got into the school I wanted, heh :stuck_out_tongue:
