Recommendation Letters

Hi guys I was wondering if for the common app we had to invite a teacher to EVERY college we apply to for them to send a recommendation letter which I think would be quite laborious. Can someone please answer this question?

I am not sure of the true answer to this but I am assuming if you are applying early decision somewhere then the recs may want to include reasons you would be a good fit for that particular school. The regular decision recs I am assuming could be more generic and one for all. I would like to know the definitive answer to this question, too.

i was also wondering the same thing… it would be hard for teachers to rate me/upload letters for all the colleges I have on the common app

No. When you invite a teacher, that recommendation can be used for every Common App school you apply to, you don’t need to invite them for every single college. Incidentally, I’ve never seen a college ask for a university-specific recommendation.

OH that makes so much more sense - sorry I should have totally seen that…
So once you invite a teacher they will fill out one rating/rec letter and then they will automatically be applied to the schools we want them to recommend me… right?

Well, the teacher is the one who needs to send them to the school (as in, select the school and press submit/send); it’s not automatic, so make sure that the recommendation is actually there.

At least that’s what I think, based on what happened to me like a week ago. My teacher accidentally only sent her recommendation to 3/5 of my common app schools (so it didn’t get automatically sent to every school on Common App). I asked her about it later and she sent the other 2 in (it only took a minute or so) and Common App had it within seconds. She just had to choose the school and submit it. Hope this helps!

no your teacher will have to write a generic recommendation, which you will use for all your colleges
