recommendation letters

do you guys think that getting a really good letter of recommendation [eg. from head of a natioanl BIG newspaper] make a really big difference?u know like based on that can you get into any college you want to go in?

not on that alone, but I'm sure it helps. Many schools prefer an academic relationship to the person who is writing it also, so keep that in mind.

make sure you actually have a close relationship with that person- colleges despise when people get recs from senators/governors/mayors/famous alumni when there really is no personal connection.

uhk thnx.. i dont kno d head so well but she ll write an amazin letter..but can it make up for a bad high school gpa?

really your question boils down to "if there is some prominent person who I don't know very well but who will write me a glowing letter, will that let me get in anywhere I want? Will colleges look at this letter and ignore my gpa, sat, ECs, etc?"

The answer is NO.

Same answer even if the person is your next-door neighbor and has known you since diapers.
