Recommendation Thank You gifts

Anyone willing to share what they did as thank yous for the teacher recommendations? Any suggestions?

The nicest thing that you can do is write the teacher a thoughtful note that expresses appreciation for their recommendation and also expresses gratitude for specifics relating to their instruction and mentoring. Then, when you get your college acceptances, let them know, thank them again, and tell them where you decide to go. If you wish to give a gift, a small momento from the college you chose -- something like a college mug -- would be a nice gift.

Last year I did almost exactly what Northstarmom suggests. After all my applications were submitted, I gave each a hand-written thank you note mentioning what I most appreciated about their classes and gave it to them with a box of chocolates. When I finally decided where I was going, I gave each of them a hat from that school.

Doing "thank yous" can be important - I also applied for almost 30 outside scholarships, and my recommenders were amazingly willing to provide customized recs for each. Maybe the chocolate put them in a good mood???

I mailed each of my recommenders a personal thank you. I made it very personal, joking in it (poked fun at the teacher :) in one) and even drawing some ridiculous drawing in one of them. I'm sure they liked them, considering they were really true to my personality. I couldn't have just written a generic thank you--that wouldn't have been me!

EDIT: Thanks for posting this!! One of my letters got returned to me (wrong address) and I need to send it out again!! Lol good reminder! :)

I wrote thank you notes and gave them some chocolate. :)

I had my son write a thank you note, and included a Starbucks gift card.

Yeah I got them gift cards and wrote them a heartfelt thank you note for what they did for me. :)

I wrote them notes and gave them vases filled with cookies around christmas time.

Nice ideas. The common theme is certainly the personal note. Thank you.

I wrote a little note to each of them. Come April, when I find out where I got in, I'm planning on baking a batch of brownies and splitting it among the three teachers and my guidance counselor.

I gave each a thank you card. I gave one some jelly beans and a gift card, I gave the other wine LOL. and I gave my counselor a gift card to a nice restaurant.

I got my teachers Chinese calligraphy scrolls. I'm thinking about getting my counselor a potted plant.

I had my husband bring some chocolate back from Sweden to give to he teachers and guidance counselor .

how much do you think is the max you should spend on a recommendation thank you gift?

A pretty, very personalized Thank You note and I gave one teacher a 5 dollar gift card to a coffee shop because she always drinks it in class. =]

Give them something they'll remember. Wait till you get accepted somewhere and run in their room all excited and give them a big hug. It's free and there's no awkwardness of writing a card.

DS wrote nice thank you notes to all the writers. For one history prof, we bought a Civil War desk calendar. For a bird biologist who wrote a science fair related recommendation we bought a wall calendar with nice photos of song birds. These each cost about $10.

I asked what she wanted and she said almonds or pistachios. So that's what she's getting. With a handritten note.

I got a physics toy-like-thingy for my physics teacher and spanish cards for my spanish teacher (she uses cards in her class for certain things).

I got peach vinegar for my counselor and chem teacher
