Recommendation waiver

The teacher rec form says that you sign if you waive your "right" to view the completed form. Does this mean that it's okay to see it, you just don't get a guarantee that you'll be able to see it?

Yes. Your recommender can show it to you, ask you for comments, give you a copy, etc. You just can't walk into the colleges' admissions office and demand to see it.

It's ok if the writer volunteers to show it to you. It's not ok to ask/hint for them to do so, ask your HS counselor to pull the rec from the file to show you, or ask the admission offices of colleges where you've applied to show it to you.

In most people's experience, they never end up seeing it.
