I've made what I thought was my final list, but it's heavy on public universities when privates usually hold the huge grants. Wondering if I could have some thoughts, keeping in mind that I'll probably major in comm/journalism or something similar?

Reaches:

I'm ranked 9 in a class of 430+, have a 34 ACT with Writing, have taken 5 AP classes (Scholar with Distinction), have an UW GPA of 4.0, and several club leaderships, if that helps.

aaand bump. I'm pretty happy with this list, but I just wanted a few second opinions.

idk much about the west coast...
but syracuse university has a pretty solid journalism program.
it's pretty competitive, too.

Wisconsin-Madison would be a good match/safety. Great Comm/Journalism program. Better school than your other matches/safeties.

I would suggest UC Berkeley.

W/ a 34 ACT - I wouldn't say those schools are reaches.

Definitely not a sure thing, but you would have a decent shot - esp. if the rest of your app is up to par.

thanks everyone for the awesome replies!--I'm actually really surprised that USC is on both lists for comm and journalism, because it's ranked really high for financial aid too, isn't it?

Other suggestions.... I actually ruled out UW-Madison and Berkeley because of how huge they are AND they're in metropolis settings. I'm a smalltown girl... giant city colleges would be too hard to adjust to. But I know they're fabulous schools. :) And I appreciate the suggestions.

UW-Madison might actually climb back onto the list because damn, that place is gorgeous!

oh question - is it University of South Carolina or Southern California?

Five bucks on southern california.

thinks .... Yeah I gotta say that's more likely.

I'd be skeptical of any undergraduate "ranking" that didn't include the Edward R. Murrow School at Washington State University.

which is an amazing school! :) yes, that's one of the ones I've actually visited. Was blown away. Maybe WSU's party rep knocks it off a lot of lists?

In May of this year ABC News selected 5 schools to create multimedia bureaus at the schools it considers to have the best journalism programs. Those schools are: U Texas/Austin, Arizona State, Syracuse, U Florida, and UNC-CH.
