Recommendations for hotel near UVa

We are going to visit over my daughter’s spring break and need to stay overnight. Please share any recommendations for hotels you love or hotels you would stay away from. Thanks.

Back when I was there a gazillion years ago, the Boar’s Head Inn was the nicest place to stay, but there’s a lot more selection now.

Boar’s Head was still a nice place to stay on our most recent visit (2015), although it is a 10-15 minute drive from campus. If you want to be within walking distance of the university and avoid parking hassles, there is both a Hampton Inn and a Marriott Courtyard near “The Corner” that would be good choices. There is also a fairly new hotel called The Graduate, but I have no personal experience with it. For dinner, we have enjoyed the Local, Tavola, and South Street Brewery; Bodo’s Bagels is an institution for breakfast/lunch.

I imagine a lot of students would be visiting UVA during their spring break so hotels must be getting booked early. I would try to find a reservation as soon as possible. For example some people book hotels for graduation almost a year in advance.

During many weekends, many hotels in Cville sell out and most raise their prices. I always stayed in Waynesboro. There are a number of chain hotels there that are fine, and they are often 1/2 the price of Cville hotels. It doesn’t take much longer to drive at 75 mph on I64 than to sit in heavy traffic on Rt. 29 north. Waynesboro also has most chain stores, such as Target, which can avoid a need to drive Rt. 29 north to do shopping.

Also, from many locations (such as from the southwest and the north), eastbound I64 is the fastest way to get to Cville.

Found a great rate at a brand new (opened Nov 2016) Country Inn and Suites in Charlottesville that has very positive reviews.

We stayed at the Graduate. Very convenient boutique hotel.

The Country Inn is fine. I stayed there shortly after it had opened. I also like the Hyatt Place. For restaurants, there are several good ones on the pedestrian mall downtown. I like Zo.ca.lo and Petis Pois.
