Recommendations from a college professor

Let’s imagine that I through work/research with said professor developed a good relation with him, and that this prof is also related to the major I am applying to, and works at my top choice school. Would this be better on an admission application than, for example, one from a high school teacher?

Edit: yes I will be submitting the regular teacher recs also

@pandawang16 Colleges want teacher recs (1st priority) and then other outside recs, if you have any. If you can, submit both. Not submitting a teacher’s recommendation for college would be a devastating mistake.

They would be different. Typically one or two teacher recommendations are required – those would have to be from teachers you had a class with. The professor can be a supplemental, or extra, recommendation and should speak to traits you exhibited in the work/research you have done together.

@MrElonMusk Thanks for reply, I should have been clearer, I would of course submit my regular teacher recs also

I don’t think it would be beneficial. What’s more important is your GPA, ethnicity and gender.

I absolutely think it’s a great idea along with a regular teacher recommendation.
