Hi, I am a going to be a senior in the Fall and I need to start making a list of colleges to apply to. I live in NY and I would prefer to stay near the East Coast. I am a White male currently attending a relatively good Catholic school for my area. I will definitely not qualify for Financial Aid anywhere, unless it is merit aid, but paying for college is not a concern. My stats are:

SAT I (single sitting): 2380 (CR-800/M-780/W-800/10)

ACT (will not send): 34 (M-30/R-36/E-33/S-36/W-10)

SAT II: 770 Biology E (will take Math II and US History in Fall)

Unweighted GPA (out of 100): 99.1 (all Honors classes-most rigorous available/school does not offer AP or IB)

Class Rank: 2/459

Extracurriculars (senior year activities are assumptions): Travel Soccer (9-12), School Soccer (9-12) Captain JV most likely Captain of Varsity, Tutoring Program in lower income area (9-12), school community service club (10-12), retreat staff leader (11), mentor for younger grades (12), writer for the school website (11), NHS (11-12), Latin Tutor (11-12)

Job/Work Experience: Camp Counselor (summer before senior year), Busboy (10-12)

Volunteer/Community service: mostly through school clubs, 150+ hours by senior year

I am interested in going into Business so I will most likely be studying Economics/Finance/Accounting or something else along those lines. I would like to attend a school with an intellectual atmosphere and a sense of community. I would like to be challenged academically but I would prefer somewhere that does not feel cutthroat. I have a general idea of the schools I would like to apply to but I am interested in getting more opinions. What schools would be good reaches/matches/safeties for me?

Wow.

Congratulations on a very successful high school career. This is remarkable.

If you are in NY and want to do business, GO TO BARUCH.

You would most likely get into Macaulay Honors and get a FULL scholarship. Baruch is widely known for their amazing business program and you would have amazing internship opportunities in the city. It isn’t a cut throat environment, but it will challenge you academically. A reach would be UPenn’s business school, but Baruch would be a safety academically and financially. You seem like a great candidate for admissions pretty much anywhere

You have the academic chops to apply almost anywhere you like. That does not guarantee that you will get in everywhere. Your interests might be a little contradictory, but that point could help you narrow your search. The most prestigious undergraduate business colleges are somewhat “cutthroat” by definition. They are highly selective, and attract very ambitious, driven, disproportionately male (as compared to liberal arts colleges) students. Penn/Wharton and NYU/Stern are two obvious target schools for you in that category. You can find excellent Economics departments at most elite liberal arts colleges, on the other hand, and so you should research the curricula at places like Amherst, Wesleyan, Williams, Colgate, Middlebury, Brown, Haverford, William & Mary, and - of course - Harvard, Yale, and Princeton. If you love the small campus atmosphere, think about applying to Williams or Amherst ED. Either sounds like an excellent fit, and both have prepared generations of successful financial executives.

@woogzmama thank you for the advice!
