Recommendations/References for College Freshman

Hi everyone,

I’m applying for a program over the summer, and the application fee is coming up in mid-November. The application asks for two letters of recommendation. I’m curious as to whether it’s best to get recommendations from college professors/mentors or from high school teachers. I feel as though because high school teachers knew us for longer, they would be able to do better recs/references, but at the same time, I have changed and grown in the few months I’ve been in college, and I think some of my mentors would be able to better attest to that. Any thoughts?

What types of skills and experiences does the program seek or require, and who can best describe your strengths in those areas? You could always approach your professors and have a conversation about the program. Ask them if they feel they can write a strong letter based on the program description and what they know about you. Most will be honest, and that will answer your question.

What kind of program is this? Is it like an internship program kind of thing? I haven’t heard about many programs that require recommendations.
