Teacher Recs

I know a lot of colleges require teacher recommendations – does this mean literal high school teachers that you have had or can it be an employer, research mentor, etc.? For example, I have interned at a couple of places, so instead of having teacher recs., can I replace that with my mentors at the internship?

My employers/research professors know me and my work a lot better than my high school teachers because they worked with me one on one for extended periods of time which is why I am asking. Thank you!

It would be ill-advised to have ONLY employer/prof recs. Even though employers may know you well, your high school teachers likely know you best in the classroom setting.

Generally, have two solid high school recs - the employer/prof ones would make great supplemental recs. Some schools will REQUIRE a certain number of recs with the emphasis on high school ones. Check the requirements for each school you’re interested in.
