On how to proceed with my Robotics Club?

Ok to put it simply, we're broke.
We participate in FTC and Vex

Our top builder is the son of our coach, who has an incredible bias towards him.

Our next best builder receives no training from our best builder.
I'm probably the best programmer there save for our senior, but she still insists on putting in a 2nd rate person ahead of me.

School doesn't support us or give us money, though they did buy us a field.

So after next year, the coach leaves and we have no money, no coach.

I love Robotics too much just to see it die at my High School.

How should I save it?

Please help?

Ask local companies for sponsorships/expertise…

Have fundraisers at your school! You could put on a robotics show, and show off all of the cool things you can do with technology/robots. You could charge people to come and view it, and once they see how awesome robotics is, they will understand why your club needs help/support. Good luck!

^Good idea, but perhaps a tad ambitious. Personally, I think carwashes are a great way to raise money.

Yea, we do carwashes and bakesales to raise money.

I agree, car washes are awesome. If you have one over the summer at a popular place, such as a grocery store, people are sure to come!

In my experience, car washes make very little money. Pretty much every organization at my school agrees on that.

At my school with 2000 people, bake sales make between $150 and $250. You could do a couple of those, and maybe a sale of coffee and donuts one morning. I don’t know how much you need, but you can make money pretty quickly like that.

Here’s how much we need: Anything above $1k. I’ll see about the bakesale. And Carwashes in my area generally work well.

Bake sales work the best.

Oh, a group at my school sold water bottles for $1 each and made about $2000. Maybe more. They got them either for free of for a really cheap price by asking for a donation. All of their money is going to charity though, so I don’t know if it would be as easy to get a donation when the money is for a robotics club, but you could maybe get them half off ish? Or just do about 6 bake sales.

You know, bake sales could work. And That water bottle thing could work really well.

Any tips on sponsors/

For sponsors, i think you should go up to them and say why you want to be sponsored. Make them see why it’s a good investment. If your robotics team has been doing well, show them that. If you guys made it onto the newspaper, show them the article.

My club holds these sports tournaments. We held a badminton tourny in January, and we made around $300. We’re thinking about ping pong next.

Oh also, if you’re going to hold a bake sale, try to see if you can hold one on the day of SATs. I bet you you’ll make a lot of $$. Good Luck!

Thanks. And we used to be in the Newspaper, but our Sister Robotics School, Battlefield High School(Way more $$, way more people, way more resources) pretty much hogs the spotlight. They even have national tv attention.
