Recommended reading for accountants?

Any suggestions for an aspiring accountant? Thx.

You serious?

Start reading the FASB Accounting Standards Codifications.

That is…if you are serious.

Where can I find them?

If you serious focus on having a personality. It will differentiate you.

You can go here: [FASB: Financial Accounting Standards Board](<a href=“FASB Accounting Standards Codification®”>http://asc.fasb.org/)

Oh yeah, that’s an annual subscription for $850. However lucky for you, I have access to it so you can get it for 50% off. Paypal me the money, I’ll give you the access. You can pay in installments as well.

It’s just business.

Well maybe books on business etiquette, dale carnigie’s how to make friends and influence people, there’s plenty of investment books if you’re looking for something business related for stimulation, maybe some economics books you might find appealing, accounting however is not a subject that has much appeal to read for enjoyment.

That said, I was curious if anyone could reccomend a good book to prepare for intermediate accounting courses? It’ll be a year until I take the course, but id like to have a competitive edge when I do begin.

Also if you’d like to watch the best movie of all time(according to imdb) shawshanks redemption, the main character is an accountant. Also it didn’t occur to me until now, but I think that movie is based off a book by stephen king.

Read goingconcern.com daily. It will give you a lot of fantastic information on the accounting industry.

lol Big 4

[Did a PwC Auditor Work Herself to Death? Going Concern: An Online Tabloid for Modern Accounting & Finance Professionals](Did a PwC Auditor Work Herself to Death? - Going Concern)

^ That’s nothing to laugh about.

What a dumb article. Not funny, but still completely laughable. She should have tried her hand in neurosurgery if she wanted to know what real stress is like.

It’s sad that a woman died, but blaming it on her job at a big 4 firm is flat out stupid.

A good place to see what life as an auditor is like is lifeofanauditor.blogspot.com. great blog that’s been going on for a couple of years with a lot of info.

Watch the movie Deception to see first hand the life of an audit manager.

Did you find deception to be accurate portrail of a first hand account? The reviews on rotten tomato don’t look to promising. Ill probably give it a watch though.

sp1212: I appreciate the offer, but I can’t afford that right now. Any other way I can get access to them, preferably much cheaper?

Oh, I should probably also mention that I’m an undergrad. I know the thread title might give the wrong impression.

I saw a book called accounting for dummies the other day. Havent opened it up, but I ought to as I’m looking for the same thing you are. Should be a good read.
