I’m currently taking on my 2nd degree while working. I’m moving to another state and so I applied as a transfer student to some schools that offered the same major. I was rejected for admission to basically all of them, even the school where I earned my first degree. I called the school and the admission counselor said it was due to my lower GPA; being under 3.0. He reccomended to me I should apply to any grad school for my MBA. My question is how can he recommend that to me when I couldn’t even be accepted as a transfer student for a 2nd bachelors degree? He made it seem as if I would be accepted to grad school. Another school I applied to also asked if I wanted to switch my application to apply for their grad program as well. I don’t know what I should do honestly.
MBA programs aren’t as focused on GPA, and are instead swayed more by good professional work experience to build your studies upon. Is your 2nd degree a business degree? Some schools may feel you don’t need a 2nd bachelor’s and are better suited for an MBA for that reason.
Why would you want a second bachelor’s anyway? In almost all cases getting a master’s is preferable. The only cases where you might need a second bachelor’s is in specific professional fields like nursing, engineering, maybe accounting.
Also, although MBA programs are less focused on your GPA, if you have less than a 3.0 unless your professional experience is truly outstanding you still might find it difficult to get admitted - at least to the programs that are worth the time and money.
