I applied ED and signed into MyROC acct to find an area for Writing Sample (Recommended) under suggested items. Would this be the writing piece I mentioned in my Common App (provide the title and approximate word count of the best piece of writing you completed during secondary school) or do applicants typically submit something else? I worked, for quite some time, on my Writing Supplement for the CA to be sure it really captured what I wanted to showcase. Now I'm concerned about writing another piece.

The writing sample UR is asking for is a graded research paper or something similar. They aren’t expecting you to produce a completely new piece.

Thanks, WOWM. So, the piece I included in the Common App is something that was graded but was not a research paper (ie an English term paper or some such thing). I wrote about the statistics of Monopoly…just trying to be certain that this might be what they are looking for…

do they want the actual paper?

The actual physical copy of the paper? No, a scan will of the paper will be fine.

I wondered about this, too. My son will probably include an analysis paper of Hamlet that he’s working on for his college English class. Would that be ok?

Also, are your kids able to see when something gets uploaded into the MyRoc account? Is there some indication in your kid’s account that shows the upload was successful?

D’s MyRoc is updating her on a step-by-step basis. She knows that the first reader has already finished reading her application and that it’s being read by the second reader.

Wow, that’s great, EllieMom. My son hasn’t submitted his app yet.

Ellie Mom, when did you apply? We did last week of OCT and still in step 1 and has not moved since.

My application has been sitting with the 1st reader since a few days after submission…

So happy I checked CC. My D totally ignored the request to submit her paper. I feel like a nag but she got it done now

My D did not submit a paper, though she did everything else, including 2 visits and an interview. She applied 11/17 RD and is on Step 3, so I’m not even going to worry about it at this point. She is interested in math or computer science, hopefully the paper isn’t a deal breaker.

I applied RD and submitted my app late Oct. but I am still on my first reader. I am not interviewing and do not plan to interview, though I did submit a writing supplement.
