Recommenders

The school I’m applying to has 2 required recommenders. I’ve met this requirement and currently have 4, waiting on the fifth. If I submit my application while my fifth recommender has not submitted their recommendation, will they still be able to submit their recommendation before the admissions committee reviews my application? The deadline is November 1. Does the admissions committee begin looking at early applications before the deadline, or do they wait until the deadline has passed to begin looking at apps?

Assuming the college accepts 5 recs via the Common App (or wants 5 recs, but that’s a different question), you can submit the application first and the rec will be transmitted when complete. Assuming that all the recs arrive close to 11/1 it’s fine. As I told you the last time you asked the question about submitting anapp before the deadline, the time prior to the deadline is spent building the applicants’ files, not reading the apps.

Yes, invited and assigned recommenders are still able to submit recommendations even after you submit your application via the Common App. It is likely that once receiving your student portal information, your list of required documents will be incomplete (assuming the school accepts 5 recs as mentioned above). I don’t believe that the admissions committee will review your application until the required documents are all submitted. Everything should work out fine though as you will still have made the November first deadline.

Good luck with your applications
