damn ucla almost had 100k

What do the right two columns show?

The perfect storm of widenet casting, holistic adcoms frenzy, and desperation.

The right two columns show year-on-year increases in applicants, both in raw numbers and in percents. E.g., Berkeley had 6,262 more applicants for Fall 2013 than they did for Fall 2012, an increase of 8.1%.

Every year the numbers getting higher and higher, making the admit rate lower and lower, thereby allowing only the elite and hardworking to get in. Education should be a right for everyone. Online universities are the next step towards the democratization of education.

^Education should be available to everyone, yes. A Berkeley education should be available only to the intelligent and/or hardworking w/o financial restraints.

Also, it should be pointed out that it has become far easier for each applicant to apply to an ever larger number of universities. Thus, students who might once have only applied to lower-ranked UC’s now must only check a box to apply to Berkeley and LA.

Education is available for everyone. There are community colleges for a reason. Many choose to go to one for the first two years and then transfer.

It only makes my degree look more valuable with the lower acceptance rate. I ain’t mad at that.

wow! ya I guess it looks better for us
