Record No. Of Applicants

Hey Everyone,
It seems this year that the schools seem to have great excuses for rejecting (Choate rejected me because they never had enough financial aid) and for waitlisting (this year was an exceptional year for XYZ admissions) applicants. Though could it possibly be true, according to wikipedia

"The acceptance rate for the 2007-2008 year was 16%. The expected acceptance rate for 2008-2009 is around 12%, with over 2100 applicants. This is the most applications ever received in the history of the Academy."

Part of me wants to beleive, the other thinks its bs lol.

Well, I believe Brown got like, 21% more applications this year, and Yale got 13% more… :/

Just be grateful we’re not the class of 2050, LOL.
(… Yeesh. Imagine how it’ll be for me: Class of 2014, if competition is this cutthroat already…!)

I am thinking the same thing LIpwr

Dive… You’re thinking is just crazy. You will have a better chance than most people this year if the economic situation changes.

Record number of applicants normally happen every year… Record low acceptance rates are truly unique signs of changing times. I think that next year will not have a record number of applicants… But a slightly higher acceptance rate than this year.

And why do you think next year won’t have a record number of applicants, if record numbers normally happen each year? What, is 2010 an lucky year? Or perhaps, since YOU’RE not applying, it has to be sooo much easier to get in…

Okay, that sounded malicious. But that wasn’t the point, so… :)

Did you notice you used the word IF? There’s no guarantee it’ll get any better. Besides, I need full FA so my chances are slim enough, thank you very much. :confused:
IN FACT… IF I CHANNEL MY INNER PESSIMIST, the situation will get worse.
i should go throw tomatoes at AIG. :'(

Same financial situation as you (as seen by my choate rejection)! If only AIG gave that bonus money to the BS’s :D

The reason:
This was an unusually popular year for Boarding School. Let’s say the economy gets a bit better… Less applicants. The bubble bursts…

… If the economy got better, why would their be fewer applicants?
And isn’t [almost] EVERY year “unusually” popular? Like, 2001 was amazing. But looking back, 2001 is NOTHING compared to 2009…

@ Waitl!sted (i hope you get off WL, btw!): I KNOW, RIGHT? ahah. xD

Most parents who scrap everything they can together to have their children attend expensive day schools could not do it next yr with the economy. So many applied to boarding school hearing about the great FA, thinking they’d give it a shot, and applications shoot up.

Stupid Private School Kids Taking my spots :(

Lol YOUR spot huh.

ahahh xD
i wish i could go to private school. i was applying to a great private day (thus, the SSATs…) but at the last minute, she pulled me out.

YES. WITH ME, REGISTERED FOR THE SSATS (not yet taken though, thus lack of motivation…), FINISHED SHORT QUESTIONS, RECEIVED RECOMMENDATIONS, and all of my essays: FINISHED! :@

@mpicz Yes, my spots :D

@Dive Wow, sucky.

Groton has most applicant ever as does Andover.

Andover is around 16.6% while Groton is probably around 15%.

I never knew those ones ben, I just chose the best year to apply didn’t I? :(

Actually, haven’t the number of applicants increased every year despite economic conditions?
