recording lectures?

anyone here record their prof's lecs? if so what good recording devices are out there?

thanks

When there was a guest lecturer in one of my classes that I needed to write a paper on, I recorded him using my laptop (Mac using Word’s recorder).

For my research this summer I bought a digital recorder which has proved very useful. Really anything that records should be fine.

Are we allowed to record any lecture at our convenience? :O

I don’t see why not. If a professor says specifically that you shouldn’t then that should give you a clue. Otherwise, have at it.

On rare occasions, professors will request that nobody record lectures because they feel that students will participate in the lecture less/find it easier to get distracted with the safety net of just rewatching the lecture. Other professors actually record it themselves. Every classroom in Huntsman has three cameras, and each seat has a microphone so that students asking or answering questions can be heard on recordings which are uploaded to a website by the professor. Many College professors do the same thing, except with less high-tech methods. I’ve had seven professors record classes for students and make them available within 24 hours of the lecture itself, and I’ve had two professors specifically request that no recording take place.
