recruiting

if a company doesn't actively recruit at your school, does that put you at a disadvantage in getting hired?

pretty big disadvantage

You're going to need something to really make yourself stand-out.

Large national/international company or small local company?

Larger company – no, not at all. Recruiters can only get to so many places. It may be advantageous to meet a recruiter at your school, or it may not help at all. Companies are looking for the best of the best, not just the best in the small number of schools they have the time and funds to visit.

If a local company is recruiting at other local schools but not yours, that's a fairly large snub. It may mean that they don't respect the quality of education the students are getting at your school.

Edited to add: A great way to get a job is to network. Networking can happen in a lot of ways besides meeting a recruiter at your school.
