I know a potential cadet who is interested in playing football at the USMA, and the coach there has expressed interest in him. However, he has not applied for any nominations or completed the DODMERB exam. The senatorial and congressional nominations have already been given out for his district and state. His grades are mediocre, 1000 SAT and about a 3.0 weighted GPA. How much of a difference can being recruited make in his admissions?

He should proceed with his application. DodMERB, at this point, is not an issue. There are appointments available for those without nominations, especially those that have the attention of the football coaches. More importantly, he does not need a nomination for MAPS and he sounds like an ideal candidate. What does he think of all this? BTW, that is a rhetorical question.

Mombee…fyi, the name of the USMA prep school is USMAPS…you might have it confused w/ the navy school, NAPS. ;)
