Do you need to be a recruited athlete to truly be considered at MIT for your athletics? Are club tournament championships and other successes equally valid?

Recruitment at MIT is very different than recruitment at a lot of other schools. If you are interested in playing a sport at MIT, contact the coach. There is also a recruitment form on the MIT athletics website. Most sports will also take walk-ons if you want to wait and see if you want to play.

And in terms of admissions, you definitely don’t need to be a recruited athlete for the admissions officers to recognize your dedication to your sport as an extracurricular activity.

Okay, that’s what I thought.

I’m not sure if I’ll continue the sport in college so I didn’t really want to do the whole recruiting thing. But I am pretty good and it’s one of my main ECs.

Then get in touch with a coach and see what they want to prove your acumen. Even if you don’t end up playing at MIT, getting a read for how good you are is unlikely to hurt your application and could end up helping (if you’re really thatgood).
