Is it okay to recycle one college essay for another college? Would the colleges know that I reused the same essay for another essay. I'm not going to use the exact same essay. I'm going to change around a few things to suit each school. But if I say in one essay that this college is my number one choice and then say this other college is my number one choice, is that bad? Would the colleges know that I did this?

You can recycle the essays. My advice is to write a generic essay and save it. As you tailor it for each school, save it under a new name that includes the school. If you always start each new essay with the generic one, there is no chance that you will tell UVA why you would love to go to Michigan.

And about the number one choice…Your number one will probably change throughout the season.

Okay but is there any chance College 1 will know I said College 2 is my number one choice even though I already said College 1 is my number one choice?

No, they wouldn’t have any way knowing that, but chances are if you write a really generic essay and just change names, etc. they’ll probably be able to tell. There’s nothing wrong with recycling your essay, but if you want to make a better impact on admissions be sure to research the school and focus your essay on it as much as you can.

Do not forget to change the names!!!
