Can anyone comment (from experience) on Red Barn computers and their rep. for student laptops? Thank you.

Well, let's see, I own an ASUS W5F!

Those "Red Barn" computers are really "Built on ASUS" models, but I've noticed that the prices that Cornell offers are... very high!

For example, a Z62F can cost you a little over 1000 dollars or up to 1200 dollars if you want a better configuration, but if I remember correctly, the price Cornell was offering was much higher than that for an inferior configuration!

I'd stick to online retailers such as geared2play.com, c9tech.com, discountlaptops.com, etc. etc. if you want a lower price.

However, if you DO get a laptop from Cornell, then I guess you can get it fixed by Cornell whereas if you get it from elsewhere, your warranty is covered by the retailer (in the case of "Built on ASUS" models) or the actual company, ASUS (if you get an "ASUS Ensemble" model).

PM me if you want to know more!

ASUS makes very solid and affordable laptops by the way! You won't be disappointed (I've noticed that the systems shown on Cornell are low-end, so I don't know about those)

dont buy computers from the cornell store. i think they actually charge you MORE. its better to use an educational discount from a place like Dell or Apple

I know there are pre-packaged computers from Red Barn and others from the Cornell store. Red Barn site also has "Cornell Computers" and the configs. and prices seem fine. thanks for prior responses. Anyone else with pros or cons of using them.

red barn sux. they rip you off BIG TIME. you get loads of coupons from dell and could definitely get the dell laptops for much cheaper.
