Is anyone in this section an active or former member of the Redcoat Marching Band? I am about to start my first semester of community college next month, and UGA is one of my top choices as a transfer institution. During high school, I played cymbals (freshman year), bass drum (junior year), and tenors (senior year). Hopefully, as a junior transfer, I will make either the snare or tenor line. Is there anyone here I can talk to about the Redcoat Band? I would preferably like to speak to a drumline member since they know all the drumming jargon (paradiddle, traditional grip, etc), but anyone is welcome to talk to me about the Band!

My son played tenors last year as a freshman; snare this year as a sophomore. I’ll have him respond to you. What would you like to know?

Thanks so much gadad! Along with general info on the experience of being a part of the drumline, I just have a few questions:

-Does UGA march with matched or trad grip for their snares?
-What do they judge you on during tryouts?
-Is the drumline like a family? My high school one was.
-How difficult is it to land a spot on the drumline, especially on the snare and tenor line?

Thanks again, gadad!

He’s going to PM you, FD.
