Reduction in classes?

I was recently accepted to UCLA and I’m very excited for next year however theres one thing that kept popping up that is starting to worry me. I heard that due to budget cuts UCLA are cutting some classes and this is making it harder for students to get the classes they need to graduate, possibly meaning they take longer than 4 years to graduate. I tried to look this up but I couldn’t find anything, so is this true or not?

Where do you guys hear this stuff?

It may be true that class sizes have been steadily increasing over the past few years, but UCLA does not want to keep you longer than 4 years. I believe there’s a state mandate that they have to get you out by for years. Budget cuts have been occurring nationwide so this isn’t unique to UCLA.

You will have some big classes but look into the General Education Clusters and Fiat Lux programs, which provide small class, discussion based learning opportunities with professors. The Clusters are year-long programs open only to Freshman that usually satisfy 4 out of your 10 required Gen Ed classes. Fiat Lux are 2 credit seminars open to all students and which can be taken any semester. We were told that there were more than 100 Fiat Lux seminars offered last year.
