@Maxwell1491 No, no, this was real. I wondered about the Saturday-open thing too, but, hey, this is prime admissions season, my guess is working weekends is nothing new.
Also, on a cautionary note, my D said they said “decisions” are going out over the span of a couple days, not “acceptances.” They may have meant acceptances–or not. Don’t want to throw cold water on your hopes, just being realistic–and verbally exact.
Like I said, my kid’s halfway across the state and doesn’t have constant access to her phone, so I can’t quiz her on details. But she did call admissions (she’s never been one to suffer silently).
Fedex delivered a small package today welcoming my daughter to Reed. It contained a form letter along with a personal note that referenced why she will fit in at Reed, and some other nice things in the box. What a nice gesture. Thank you.
I checked my account page but didn’t see anything new. The financial aid page said that freshmen financial aid would be available for viewing on April 1st.
@Illustration I just got the email last night and I checked the page. The ID number was also in an email they sent “We received your Reed application” back in January (I don’t remember ever receiving a postcard.)
My page was still the same though and said decisions were finalized and they would be available to view on April 1st
International student here. I haven’t received any word back yet. They had recently asked for my transcripts from my previous school (I changed schools after ninth grade). I sent it to them today. Called to ask them whether they have received them and when decisions might be available and they said by April 1st. I get the feeling I’m going to be rejected on the sole basis that I sent them my transcripts so late, but my country is going through a horrible political scenario and the schools are open only on the weekends (Fridays and Saturdays) so I couldn’t send it earlier even if I wanted to. Nonetheless I think only rejections are left. I just get that feeling.
Jinxkill another college she applied to sent acceptance letters over a four day period. So don’t give up on Reed. By the way I am curious what other colleges you applied to?
jinx, if Reed wants you (asking for additional transcripts means they’re interested), they’ll allow time for them to be processed. Admissions sometimes continue into the summer (waitlist, summer melt). Financial aid can be more of a time factor; when the budget is depleted, FA admissions stop.
Reed is the top choice, I would not say it was love at first sight, but something that developed over time as I got to know the school better. Its ins and outs, its approach to academics, its unapologetic character, and for me, where I come from, it blends in perfectly with the ideals that we have been following since mid 16th century. Its so liberal and open minded, its like an open book, but you need the right eyes to know what is there, and that is one of the prime reasons I found Reed so attractive. The college is like a piece of art, some love it, some loathe it, but like one its famous alumni once said ‘You can’t ignore it’. And I applied to a couple of other colleges, accepted to a few, but its Reed that matters. And I’m asking for around 40% aid.
I applied to a lot of schools (fifteen I think was the final count), and Reed is the only one that I liked to say “sang” to me. I never really did figure out what it was about it, so my “Why Reed?” essay didn’t give an answer. My aid would be like 90%, 95% and I figure if anything is the factor that throws me out, it’s that.
