Hey everyone! I know it's kind of far off, but this is the official Reed Class of 2019 Regular Decision thread! Can't wait for decision day! >:D<

How many students do you think interview? Do you think it will show some interest that I did an interview?

@Cosmological It depends on what you’re asking. If you went to the campus and had an interview, the fact that you interview won’t really make a difference; Reed doesn’t use demonstrated interest in the admissions process. However, if your interview went well, that would obviously help you. If you’re referencing having an alumni interview, I would say the same thing. Many people can’t make it to interviews, or don’t live near an alum, so Reed doesn’t hold it against people if they didn’t interview.

@london2va Thanks for the insight. I did an alumni interview, and it went really well. But I think there wouldn’t have been much of an excuse for me not interviewing because I go to school in a city of millions of people.

@Cosmological I feel you; I live near DC, so there were actually 3 separate cities within fifteen minutes of my house that they used as “interview centers.” Good luck to you on your app!

Hi friends. I applied RD. I also did an alumni interview a few weeks ago. Will I get into Reed with a 32 ACT and 3.68 UW gpa??? lol.

@Ctesiphon Going from previous results threads, I think you can, but for almost everyone it is not certain. I hope my 3.4 UW with upward trend and 2190 will be enough to give myself high consideration if I completely ace the essay. I want to take the SAT one more time on the last date, January 24th, but I have a sort of mandatory open house that date. I hope my school is okay with that, but I am doing a work grant this year. I usually stay until 6 PM though when everyone leaves at 3 PM, so I hope I can take this one last chance to improve my SAT score.

I hope I do. I’ve sort of grown on Reed in the last few months. Such a cool college and not ridiculously challenging to get into (ie. Rice, UChicago).

Although, 2 years ago 3 students from my school applied to Reed and none were admitted. However, I don’t know what their GPAs/ACT were.

The last person who applied to Reed from my school was in the class of 2007, and he didn’t get in.

@london2va Hello! I’m Swati, and I work in the admission office. We actually do take into account demonstrated interest in the application process. However, just like everything else, we look at it in the context of the student’s situation. We understand that not everyone can visit campus and that not everyone is in a place where we offer interviews. But we do like to see that an applicant interviewed if we offered interviews nearby, or that they came to a college fair or school visit to talk with an admission representative.

If you’re actually from the admissions office, that’s pretty cool. I am glad to hear that demonstrated interest is taken into account.

I finally applied. All I can do is hope, now.
Noooo, I spelled a word right in previous versions of my essay, but when I typed my essay in the common app, it was touch instead of the tough I intended. @reedadmission Will this count much against me? I think it is the only typo in my essay.
In my essay, I forgot to capitalize the first letter of the first word in one of my sentences…
@Cascadian425 I think they will understand if you send them a letter or email them about it as fast as you can. I sent them a corrected essay and they said they updated it, and that was a nice respite of happiness in this very stressful time.
@Cosmological I’m probably going to send them an e-mail anyway because I somehow never scheduled an interview in time, and I really don’t want that to hurt my application.
Also, Reed is an incredible place, and I’d love to have it as an option for college next year. It’s about as far as I could possibly go from home in the continental U.S., since I live in Georgia, but that’s part of the adventure.
I totally understand. I’m a world away in South Asia but I absolutely love Reed (my #1 option). I have no idea how to ‘demonstrate my interest’ any further though
on the portal … it says “why reed” essay is not there…app was submitted on jan 13 and essay on 15
the rest of the materials has a check mark against it.
of course the common app says the essay was sent.
does anyone else see the same thing on portal? i know it says it might take more than 10 days for updates to show up…but just wondering.
Yeah, it says a lot of my documents haven’t been received even though they were sent together. I might give it one or two more days before sending an e-mail to make sure everything’s ok.
