Reed College

Chance me for ED - 2 at Reed College.

GPA: 3.73 unweighted (4.0 scale)
Upward trend with a 3.0 freshman year succeeded by 4.0's.

AP/Honors courses: 5/5 (this worries me)

AP Euro- 5 AP English Lang - 5

ACT: 32

Extracurricular - None due our family income requiring me to maintain constant employment ( Does this leave me dead in the water? I know it's a significant defect but I'm not sure how much weight reed gives to e.c.'s compared to other top colleges.)

Employment - 5 days a week during school year, 6-8 hours a day. 6-7 days during the summer. For the past two and a half years at the same employer.

Letters of Recommendation from my teachers are going to be strong but I'm thinking the Counselor's rec will probably be sub-par.

My writing skills are exceptional. My essays will be the strongest part of my application.

This is the only college I'm actually considering that's really a 'reach' for me. I'm really not sure if I should be substantially hopeful or basically fatalistic. I feel like I have a weird balance of strengths and weaknesses. I'm going to be retaking the ACT next weekend and the Lit and U.S. history SAT II's on the 8th of November.

The lack of ECs may not be a problem considering your family’s financial circumstances. If the app is on Common App, you may want to elaborate on that in the “Additional information” section of the application. But knowing Reed they definitely admit on a holistic basis so you still have good chances.
