My Math and US History teachers have written glowing reference letters, My science teacher has written a great letter, but not as glowing as the other two. Then, I have a college professor who has written a fabulous reference letter for my research work. If I were to choose the letters for the commonapp, who should I keep in the second, third, and fourth positions? Thanks for the inputs.

I am thinking of the following order.

1) Math Teacher
2) US History Teacher
3) College Professor
4) Science Teacher

BTW, I am applying for the Science major and in some schools for Biomedical Eng major.

you don’t decide the order in which they go, my application organized my recs in order of the date the teachers submitted their evaluations.

What I am trying to find out is, if the common apps allow two letters, who would I choose? Can I choose one from Math teacher and one from college professor?

That is up to you. You should choose your recs depending on what program you’re intending to apply for. Personally, I would find that research rec from the college prof impressive, how about you give that one to your guidance counselor to attach to your schoolforms? That way, all the schools get it, regardless of how many recs you attach.

However, if you feel your science teacher hasn’t written one that reflects who you are in a flattering light, then make the science rec the least priority.

Math and History for sure, those are your core references. Don’t send another without a good reason. But doing research in High School is a good reason, so add it or ask your GC to do it, as said above.

But what in the world are you doing reading your rec letters? Scandalous.
