<p>Typically, from whom should we be requesting the references and how many? Heard one of them from the guidance counsellor is mandatory - is it from guidance counsellor or from university counsellor?</p>

<p>1 from the college counselor, right. As for teachers, 2 is generally the average, but 3 or 4 is fine. More than that is pushing it unless you’re absolutely certain that your recommenders all have something different to say about you.</p>
<p>I remember going to a UNC Chapel Hill information session where the admissions counselor speaking said that one particularly zealous applicant submitted letters of recommendation from some 30+ different people…</p>
<p>Also, it’s not mandatory, but if you’re heavily involved in an EC, it can be a good idea to get a supplementary rec from a coach/sponsor in addition to the teacher letter.</p>
